The Indiana Fever wrapped up a roller-coaster campaign in the 2025 WNBA season with a semifinals exit against the eventual champions Las Vegas Aces. Now that their season is over, Fever guard Lexie Hull looked back at the team’s early-season adjustments caused by DeWanna Bonner’s sudden exit.

In an interview with Glamour, Hull expressed her true feelings about Bonner, who is earning $136,004 in her current contract per Spotrac, saying that she was initially excited to have her on their team before being left behind abruptly early in the season without explanation.

“I was super, super, super excited,” Hull said. “Because finally there’s a [player in my position] that I can look up to that has won in the league and has all these accomplishments and knows what it takes, and I can learn something from her.”

“She randomly leaves, and we’re all just kind of like, ‘What happened?’ We were never given an explanation.”

According to Hull, it reinforced their resiliency throughout the season, allowing them to go deep in the playoffs and even force a do-or-die Game 5 against the Aces in the semifinals.

“To have no explanation was really challenging, but I think that helped us grow closer together because we’re like, ‘All right, this is us. We’re here. We’re going to support each other. We’re loving each other. We’re going to fight for each other. We’re not going to leave. We’re in this together.’”

The Fever bid goodbye to Bonner after just nine games. Reports following her release indicated her poor fit with the team after going off the bench early in the season. She then signed with the Phoenix Mercury to reunite with former teammate Alyssa Thomas, helping the team advance to the WNBA Finals.

Meanwhile, the Fever dealt with numerous injuries in their rotation, including Caitlin Clark’s groin issue, which only allowed her to play 13 games in the season.

Despite that, the team went on a Cinderella run powered by their duo Kelsey Mitchell and Aliyah Boston.

Lexie Hull’s teammate reveals wish for DeWanna Bonner

DeWanna Bonner’s exit from the Fever remained a mystery for the team. But for Lexie Hull’s teammate Sophie Cunningham, she wished to see DeWanna Bonner with her decision, especially now that her career is winding down.

“I’m still rooting for her. Like, I want her to end her career and be happy,” Cunningham said. “But I also think that, like, it’s okay to be professional about it, and like send a text to your teammates. Send a text saying and be like, ‘Hey, love you guys.’ Or you don’t even have to say ‘Love you guys’, just be like, ‘Hey, sorry this didn’t work out, good luck.'”

Cunningham tore her right MCL late in the regular season, causing her to miss the team’s playoff run.

The Fever is expected to reload in the offseason as they look to build on their playoff run this season.
